New Chinese Law Forces Teachers To Coerce Young Students Into ‘Hating God and Christianity’
3 min readA new law, that discourages children from believing in God has been introduced under the New Regulations of Religious Affairs in China.
The new law stipulates that primary school children should be taught to ‘hate God’ and that Christianity is evil. This new direction is part of China’s crackdown on Christianity.
Now, Children in Chinese schools are being coerced into believing that faith in God is abnormal and superstitious and parents who teach them the Bible should not be trusted.
The New Regulations of Religious Affairs took effect on February 2018, according to Bitter Winter, a religious liberty watchdog.
The crackdown intensified with the new law and impacted what is taught in schools, beginning in kindergarten.
A Christian mother told Bitter Winter. “Before starting school, I told my child about God’s creation, and he believed it. But after being taught at school, my child is like a different person. In atheistic China, these pure and innocent children have been taught to hate God.”
Basically, schools are grooming children to be atheists and teaching them that religion is “Xie jiao,” which means that religions are superstition and should not be trusted. Children are “taught to oppose their religious relatives” and that “believing in God is abnormal.”
The son reportedly told his Christian mom, “My teacher says that Christianity is a Xie jiao. If you believe in it, you will leave home and not take care of me. You might set yourself on fire, too.”
The school textbook, Morality and Society, teaches children to resist Xie jiao religious groups. Bitter Winter included pictures from the book.
“The teacher told us during class that Xie jiao groups are so terrible,” the boy said.
When the boy found a brochure about Christianity, he angrily started poking holes in it with a fruit knife.
“Christianity is a Xie jiao,” he said, telling his mother she “mustn’t believe in it.”
Affirmations from other Christian parents have supported the woman’s report.
In Xinzheng city, Henan Provine, a school holds meetings on how to teach children to oppose religion.
“If your mom goes to church and believes in God, she doesn’t want you as her child anymore,” the teacher told the children, according to Bitter Winter.
Children are forced to watch anti-religion propaganda films that depict religious people as monsters.
The parents of one child at the Xinzheng city school said their daughter is frightened that police will arrest her family.
In Linzhang county in the province of Hebei, learners are told to “supervise” their parents to make sure they don’t practice religion, Bitter Winter reported.
Many Christian parents shared their stories with Bitter Winter, exposing the extent of China’s enmity toward Christianity.
“My teacher says that Christianity is an evil cult,” one boy explained to his mother. “[That] if you believe in it, you will leave home and not take care of me. You might set yourself on fire, too.
A son then told his father that belief in God was dangerous and superstitious.
“It leads to a dead-end,” the boy told his father. “If you attend gatherings, you will be arrested.”
China ranks as the 27th worst nation in the world when it comes to Christian persecution, according to Open Doors USA’s World Watch List. Open Doors has expressed concern that the religious affairs in China now “lies with the Communist Party.”
